The fire rages on….

What is it about a fire that draws, sucks, lures and beckons us toward the fatal flames? The desire to feed the source coupled with the sensibility to douse it out once it’s served its purpose or delivered its destruction.

I have no poignant answers.

Just a torch and a camera.

“You kindled me, heap of ashes that I am, into fire. He had wondered once why love was always phrased in terms of burning. The conflagration in his own veins, now, gave the answer.”
Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Princess

“They say a good love is one that sits you down, gives you a drink of water, and pats you on top of the head. But I say a good love is one that casts you into the wind, sets you ablaze, makes you burn through the skies and ignite the night like a phoenix; the kind that cuts you loose like a wildfire and you can’t stop running simply because you keep on burning everything that you touch! I say that’s a good love; one that burns and flies, and you run with it!”

    Happy Friday, my friends!

Stealing content from my photography site for today’s post.
Enjoy the fire, stay safe and don’t play with matches.

Leave that up to me 😉

  2. These have got to be the best fire photos I’ve ever seen.

    • Wow! Really??
I have over 100 of them from two separate fires. The darned lens still can’t capture the entire essence, so I’m glad you saw some beauty in them.
      (the marshmallows were yummy, too!)

  3. Of a night…around a camp fire…it mesmerises, holds and slowly draws you in, like a moth to a light. I wonder…maybe it IS that inbuilt compass…to be drawn to the light.
Be good MamaMick, you may be lost to it too. Or is it too late? 🙂
    Namaste

  4. That’s quite a blaze for toasty marshmallows…lol.

Wonderful pics…as usual. What can I say? You’re an artist with the lens, the word and who knows what else.

    • Poet Paul,
You are too kind. My husband teases me about my photography itch. We’ll pass a barn or scene or brick in the walk and he chide me, “I know that look. You want to take a picture, don’t you?”

How is your training going? When is your race?

      • Ha ha…I get that itch sometimes too, but my photography skills (and tech camera knowledge) are a few notches below yours…so I am happy to have something in focus 🙂

My training is well. I need a run today or tomorrow. I had a big on the other day (ran 22K), but need to start doing some shorter runs as the day nears. One more big run before then and that’s it. Maintenance now.

My food intake isn’t what a real marathoner would approve of. I had cookie dough for brekkie today…lol. So while I have lost a little weight, I could have certainly dropped a few more pounds from the belly to lighten the load come race day. Damn cheese and sugar. And carbs. And…oh I will stop.

I will send you my songs at some point. It’s much harder than it seems!

        Have a wonderful day 🙂

      • No hurry on the songs. I know that’s a tough assignment!
I’m cracking up at your food consumption. I GAINED 10# while training for my first marathon…ice cream and donuts were my downfall. Now, that I’ve a hit a stride, there’s finally a happy medium between donuts and tempo runs. Good luck! I look forward to hearing all about it.

Regarding my camera skills…I might actually be able to do this better if I knew how my camera worked. I go with natural light and good times of the day so that I don’t have to do a lot of messing. Messing I know nothing about.

Have a great weekend and enjoy those shorter runs during maintenance and taper down. Sometimes tapering is even harder than the full training.

  5. I’ve always had a fascination with fire, though not (quite) an unhealthy one.
    Beautiful pictures!

  6. Me, too! I have a fascination with fire. The raw beauty and power of it. The quick, utter destruction. One of my favorite first lines in a book is: “It was a pleasure to burn.”

    Stunning photos!

  7. Beautiful photos! I never seem to capture fire the way I want to with a camera. In your pics, I can nearly feel the heat. Cool words to go along too…

    • Thank you so much, Kristen!
I know what you mean by being unable to “capture’ it all–seems that way with so many things I want to photograph–landscapes, water, trees, night skies. I just keep trying!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I thought your response was really awesome, too “nearly feel the heat” followed by “cool words.” I just love little nuances like that 🙂

  8. not sure if i already told you or not , but i tagged you in a post this morning, if you want to play along you should check it out
